i absolutely loved the capp i got from dimatina. the staff there are friendly and everything from the mural on the side of the wall outside to the people out the back,it is all about the coffee for them and seem more like a small family than a place of work. i think if someone is about to bag out a coffee house, they should go to the same place at least 4 times before writing something snarky. some of you need to grow up. and if you are grown up, lighten up.

I’ve been hanging out to get to Dimattina and unfortunately when I got there I was disappointed with the coffee. I could taste through the milk that the espresso base lacked body. It was a dusty, bitter coffee that left unpleasant after taste. It gets 3 beans because the milk was very good and strength was good but the coffee did lack.
The cafe is gorgeous and I recommend checking it out for all the funky coffee bits & pieces, could of spent all day looking at everything they have in there.
The service was as lacking as the coffee though.

Id heard a lot about this cafe and really hadn’t done any research into their coffee but I finally got around to entering the business district Osborne Park and trying this highly recommended cafe out.
I never thought it would be this good…just some stupid preconceived ideas about industrial area coffee shops.
Got a few flat whites and thoroughly enjoyed them. Really great, well made coffee. Will return if I’m in the area

I finally got around to visiting the Dimattina HQ a few times recently, as is my intention to generally get through most of the better ranked cafe’s.
The coffee was nicely made – plenty of body, decent taste – although a little hot. My main complaint is the taste. I don’t think I can fault the way the coffee was made particularly in terms of taste, it just doesn’t have much of a taste to speak of. Compared to 5senses, Fiori and Naked Bean, it just seems a bit.. dull?
Cafe itself is pretty uninspiring and on one of my two visits, was horrendously noisy.

No, “coffeenz”, I don’t have “a case of the grandpas” (sic), whatever that is. Not being ageist, are we? And not sure why you said “unfortunately not everyone shares your view”, when I think you meant the opposite. And, no, my view is not at all that “a cafe should be like a library”. You’ve totally misread my comments.
The fact is that I do like a cafe that has a pleasant ambience, whether it be vibrant, relaxing or calming. My definition of “pleasant ambience” does NOT include the annoyances that I outlined in my previous comments. Inconsiderate patrons notwithstanding, as I said, I can’t imagine staff in other coffee-loving centres, such as Melbourne and New York, ever dreaming of grinding coffee for wholesale orders for long periods in the retail section of the business. I want to be able to hold a conversation. Isn’t that what a sociable coffee is all about?

Some of the cafes you mention serves horribly bad coffee. Wild Poppy is extremely poor coffee for instance.
Dimattina coffee might be one of the “big ones”, but they are passionate coffee people who are constantly trying to learn more, which in their size of business I find quite humble!
But there is a problem where internet based anonymously posted reviews doesn’t really guarantee a great cuppa, but subjective ideas about coffee being rated from being served as a mocka with three sugars and smoking hot. To me that is not how coffee should be rated at all, but it is a reality.

Sounds like “kaffeeklatsch” has a case of the grandpas. unfortunately not everyone shares your view that a cafe should be like a library. I for one enjoy the fact that Dimattina is a bustling vibrant place and that the customers and staff enjoy a good laugh. I look forward to my 2 or three trips a day into Dims to say hi to the girls and get my fix.

Used to go to Dimattina’s, but no more. After a number of reprieves, due to convenience, I have finally decided: NEVER AGAIN. I also know several others, all ex-regulars, who have also stopped going there. Why did we, along with other friends and business associates, go to Dimattina’s? Two reasons: the coffee was consistently good, and we liked one of the baristas. Why did we stop going, then? Several reasons: it can be a damn noisy place, and difficult to hold a conversation – often the music was way too loud, and some staff obviously resented being asked to turn it down (albeit being ever so politely asked); some guests, usually the suited types, cannot hold a mobile phone conversation at less than high volume, and they cannot go a minute without making or taking a call; some guests cannot even have a conversation at an appropriately considerate volume; some takeaway types think it’s fine to yell out to staff from the door as they enter or depart; and some staff members think it’s fine to respond in kind; lastly, if you happened to be there when staff decided to fill a big order for ground coffee, you’d have to give up on conversation, and make a hasty retreat, as the prolonged noise from the machine was unbearable (I just cannot imagine staff in other coffee-loving centres, such as Melbourne and New York, ever dreaming of grinding coffee for wholesale orders for long periods in the retail section of the business).
Such a pity about the above, as the coffee was good, but it just doesn’t make up for the lack of ambience and comfort.

@consistentcoffee… judging by the comment you have just made, clearly you are not a Dimattina lover. FYI The Barista from Dimattina placed 3rd in the most recent WA barista champs. Not sure what your problem is… but if you care to look over some of the comments on the cafe’s you have listed, you will notice they have all had some poor reviews. I have coffee here and have had no problems, and it’s easily up with the best in Perth…
@Caf … As for your comments, have you not heard of a bad day? when you go to the cafe and the head barista may not be there… numerous times i have been to cafe’s and have had different coffee’s… i have learnt to try it a couple of times before i make a sound opinion…. not just an opinion based on the clientele sitting in the cafe! Perth coffee snobs are passionate about their local places, and i appreciate this, but sometimes, cafe’s have off days…. get over it. BTW i read the head Barista from Esprezzo placed 4th in the Barista champs.

^^ I’m with you there. Although this site is actually great for discovering new coffee places in Perth, a lot of the reviews should be taken with a bucket of salt. Being the internet you don’t actually know the reviewer. I learned my lesson when I drove all the way to Noranda (Ezprezzo) based on the rave reviews here. The geriatric Nescafe drinking crowd should have given it away but tried the coffee anyway. Needless to say very average.
Despite all that I really love this site as it’s a first for Perth and great place to find stuff.

C’mon Petar,
Seriously, it’s Dimattina coffee, how can this place rate third in your top 20.
While you have some good ones in the list, where’s Tiger Tiger, Leaf&Bean, Wild Poppy, Mini Espresso etc? Please …
Cheers.

Outstanding!
Working in an industrial estate after an early career in the city left me resigned to second rate lunch bar coffee, or God forbid, the tinned evil in our office kitchen. With nought but fond and fading memories of elegant inner-city coffee, I was visited by a spirit guide….well, Mat from across the cubicle anyway, who whispered excitedly, “have you tried Dimattina’s?”
5 minutes later, I was there, and haven’t looked back since. Why? It’s simply superb coffee, as good as any I’ve come across. Made with obvious passion and skill to match, it never disappoints. Now, at least once a week I find myself whispering excitedly to someone new, “have you tried Dimmatina’s?”

When i’ve been there in the morning it is very busy, but it gives you a chance to drool over the coffee machines and grinders they have for sale. Gotto love the atomics on display! Friendly Staff and damn good coffee

Great little gem tucked away in Ozzy park, heaps of parking and as soon as we stepped out of the car we could smell the coffee being roasted out the back. The staff were really friendly and knew most of the customers on a first name basis, lots of banter and laughs. Coffee was beautiful with a gorgeous rosetta on top and smooth to drink. check out this one.

Hopping out of the car we were immmediately met with the joyous smell of roating coffee !. The simple no frills style of this place has no effect on the quality product produced.
Our orders were delivered quickly with beautiful latte art amongst the peak of the early morning traffic. My long mac was at immediate drinking temperature with a great smooth flavour. You might have to put the effort in to find it in Osborne Park but it is worth it !.

I discovered Dimmatina a while back and have visited on a regular basis since then, the coffee is always spot-on and the service friendly, a hidden gem in Ozzy Park for sure!!

What a great surprise. The folks out in osborne park have kept this place under wraps.
Great coffee made by a top barista (disclaimer: Kaya is a friend) in the most unlikely of locations. The Dimattina approach is simple – now frills great coffee! Served from a store at the front of their warehouse and roasting centre – this is worth the journey for your caffeine fix!

I was a bit skeptical going out to Ozzy Park for our Friday morning coffee catchup (lunch bar cafes sprang to mind) – but must say I was pleasantly surprised.
Kaya the young lady behind the La Marzocco produced 3 beautiful coffees (tulips and rosettas), easy to drink smooth blend with plenty of kick.
The cafe itself is quite large and spread out, I really like being able to look at some of the top end home espresso machines while we waiting. Its obviously no secret that its Ossy Parks best place for coffee as there were streams of people coming thru the door.
